Prolactin (PRL) is a neuroendocrine pituitary hormone that is synthesized by anterior pituitary, placenta, brain, uterus, dermal fibroblasts, decidua, B cells, T cells, natural killer cells, and breast cancer cells. The prolactin receptor is a transmembrane type I glycoprotein that belongs to the hematopoietic cytokine receptor family. Prolactin receptor (PRL R) contains an extracellular, transmembrane, and intracellular domain. It is associated with human milk production. In fish it is thought to be related to control of water and salt balance.
Prolactin also acts in a cytokine-like manner and as an important regulator of the immune system. It has important cell cycle-related functions as a growth-, differentiating- and anti-apoptotic factor. As a growth factor, binding to cytokine-like receptors, it influences hematopoiesis, angiogenesis and is involved in the regulation of blood clotting through several pathways. The hormone acts in endocrine, autocrine and paracrine manner through the prolactin receptor and a large number of cytokine receptors.
The entire kit may be stored at -20°C for up to 1 year from the date of shipment. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. The kit may be stored at 4°C for up to 6 months. For extended storage, it is recommended to store at -80°C.
